Sleep Patterns in Newborn Babies

One concern of a new set of parents is the pattern in which their newborn baby sleeps. For every newborn baby, they sleeps for most of the day and night and they will wake up only for feeding times. However there is no set time  for sleeping and sometimes babies can get their sleep mixed up by sleeping in the day and being awake at night.

Usually, newborn babies sleep araound nine hours and more during the day and about eight at night. It is not until they are  three months and above of age they are around three months of age. The best way is no allow your baby to sleep for more then five hours at a time for the  first sox weeks.

As a parent, you should always watch for changes in your baby sleep pattern. If your baby is usually a sound sleeper then suddenly starts to wake up during his sleep there may be something wrong. It could be anything such as an ear infection or some other kind of infection. When your baby is in a light sleep his now will start to move rapidly under his eyelids. This is also the time when the baby starts to dream. For non REM sleep, there are four stages. Stage one the baby is drowsy. At the beginning of stage two the baby moves and may startle or jump with sounds. By stage three the baby is in a deep sleep and at stage four the baby is in a very deep sleep and does not move at all.
